ooc:Zodion app & Character/canon info dump
Seeing that Rock's canon isn't quite that well known, I figured I should at least provide some information with people regarding about him and his canon's specific points.

Canon Point: Post KOF: Maximum Impact 2 story.
Gender & Sex: Male
Age: 17 (aging up)
Birthdate/Sign: June 24 / Cancer (This is canon)
Tattoo: Tattoo is placed on the lower right side of his neck.
Suitability: The places that Rock pretty much lived nearly in his entire life in, Southtown and soon Second Southtown, were noted to be crime infested cities and had so much corruption that eventually got better as he grew older due to the actions of certain people (The majority of the Fatal Fury and Art of Fighting cast). But one thing never changed about being in either one of the Southtown cities was that it was constantly a case of “survival of the fittest” through the help of plenty of street smarts, education, power, and generally a combination of all three are being the main skills of what helps a person make it through the day one way or another. So with that being already said, the concept of him understanding that there are certain shady things that people do and the life style that they've chose has already been exposed to him. That’s just what you pick up and learn to accept and deal with when living in the mean streets… meaning the one who lives isn't just the strongest or the smartest, but the one who is adaptable to change. Although he can’t really say he would feel very comfortable being around women due to being extremely shy (as the result of growing up with men around a good majority of his life, and his guardian was more bro than father figure than anything), but he wouldn't exactly push them away without him having a good reason to do so. (Or otherwise, he’d find a way to just leave and not worry about it.) So that is to say that if he comes to terms that he'll need to survive in Zodion, he'll do what he can to over come any issues he has with the feminine gender.
In Rock’s canon, he is shown constantly being put against not just an inner struggle due to his father’s (Geese Howard, a former major antagonist of the series.) lineage, but also the end choices he makes to cut off all ties of his mentor and friends for the sake of finding out information about his mother whom he believed was dead for ten years, but is hinted at being alive all along… but to do so, he had to make the choice of climbing up and working for the corruption crime lords that plagued Southtown with the organized crime and possibly end up being like the father he despised growing up, leave with no information at all. Ending it all putting Rock into a situation where he was practically forced to grow up and make difficult choices in his life. Mentally, he is plenty mature and perhaps even more mature than his guardian and father figure, Terry Bogard. Physically, he’s a young adult. (And given how SNK works its characters, he would be doomed to stay 17 forever because what is actually aging?) He’s not overly sexual by the least, but if he knows that it is a way to survive then he’ll do so, albeit reluctantly.
Power: Energy Manipulation (shown more in detail in these two videos, he’ll be seen first at the second video. )
Here and here!
Long story short, Rock can gather energy (chi, ki, whichever you like to call it) from his body and use it for a lot of his attacks. But due to his father’s bloodline, sometimes the said attacks will hurt him as well depending on what move he tends to use (More commonly with his Raging Storm and Neo Deadly Rave techniques), but the pain doesn’t last for long after. It can be best described as a literal ‘blood boiling feeling’.
Personality: (300 word min - paragraph form!) A serious young man with a bit dry sense of humor and plenty on his mind, Rock can be seen as an aloof person that says a few words on any first impression of him… and that is maybe true for the first few encounters with him, but he is quite compassionate to those who need help or he warms up to. He doesn't really like to talk about his past, especially if its about his parents. (He would refer to his father, Geese Howard, as “That man” for example.) But because of his upbringing from Terry Bogard and mostly traveled to places with more men and pretty much had male contact since he was growing up, with the exception of his mother when she was alive, Rock didn't really have much contact at all with the feminine gender and thus, would be pretty shy and awkward around them that he would feel near uncomfortable at first. Not quite to the level of a phobia, but it is pretty close for initial contact, but eventually he would warm up and get used to women after periods of interaction and gaining familiarity. However, that is more likely given to the idea that none of the women he meets are giving a ‘too loud’, ‘too aggressive’, or ‘too touchy-feely’ to a point that invades the personal space so casually.
He does have a concept of right and wrong, and he does what he can to the best of his ability to help those in need as much as he could within his power, but if there is a way to talk it out first, he’d take that option unless it can’t be helped. Sure, he would probably make a complaint or two about how things are very disadvantageous to him or being taken away from him, but if there is something to be done about it, he’ll do it in the end. Additionally, thanks to his guardian Terry, he has developed a mindset of a ‘never give up’ mentality, as he proves with overcoming any challenges he is faced with in order to meet a goal whether it means trying to improve on playing basketball to rescuing someone from being attacked even if the attacker (or a group of them) is many times stronger than him, he won‘t back down from anything until his body is unable to go on.
He does, though, have a liking for sparring and fighting. Perhaps an easier way to describe this is getting involved in fighting tournament like events where he could see where his skills as a fighter has improved and what needs to be improved, as well as meeting other people that are ‘like him’ in a manner of speaking. And by that, fellow fighters who look forward to a good fist-fight, whether it be a man, woman, boy or girl. It is strangely enough during those times is when the whole gender issues is out the window and having little to no trouble at all with being around another person of the opposite gender, no matter who they are.

Huh. So it looks like a lot of changes has been done since I've last been here. I’m not going to waste everyone’s time here by asking things in detail, so I’m just going to ask for just a brief run down summary just so I can get an idea of what has happened and is happening now before going on with my way.
And since I am here, I might as well ask this out in the open since I was too damn shy the last time and didn't take the initiative and waiting proved to be pretty fatal; I’m going to be looking for a woman that is willing to be a partner for the weeks that goes on by. I know it sounds bad putting it like that, but I've learned that it's better to be blunt and up front about things like this... so yeah. Anyone who would rather want to get to know me first before making a decision, feel free. I'll be at the water district's apartments. Look for the name 'Rock Howard' at the door.
[There is a forced cough after that was declared over to the open network as he rubs his gloved hand over his face to cover at least some of the embarrassed blushing on his face.]
And another thing. I’m always open for sparring partners. I may not be at my one hundred percent best, but I’m always looking for ways to improve.
"Zodionlogs" Third-Person Prose Entry:
It was a familiar scene. A familiar feeling. That moment when you were just closing your eyes from talking with your friends one second, and then opening your eyes to find yourself in a completely different place. A room filled with the zodiac symbols inside a dome out in the middle of the lake… oh, how he couldn't forget the first time this happened and didn't expect that wouldn't be the last. Last time, it was more on confusion on why he was there and what was happening. But this time? It was much different.
Slowly lifting himself off the stone bed once again and arching his back to pop some kinks to recover from the hard surface; the rookie slowly stood up in the room and gazed around the familiar surroundings one more time. Yeah… this is definitely like last time. The pedestal with the note laying there like it was waiting for him to return with the message from the Twelve along with the cell phone device sitting next to it, the stinging sensation on his neck that was feeling like pins and needles sewing up the Cancer symbol tattoo on his neck, and the mirror that sat close by to confirm that he is indeed a resident of Zodion once again.
Before, he would get hot-headed with anger and confusion and demand what the kidnappers were trying to play at. Those were the days when the rookie was less than prepared. And now, after skimming over the note again with the same message of requesting for help and both his world and this world being in peril, Rock silently folded the note into his pocket and picked up the device again to cycle through if his old contacts were still around.
Some were still here, and some were not anymore. After letting out a small sigh of resignment, the young fighter slowly makes his way out of the dome and towards the apartment buildings in the Water District. If he is here again, then he’ll better prepare his place to be presentable for company. Lord knows he’ll need someone to speak with again to prevent himself from going insane in this weird place. “Well then… guess it’s time to pick up where I left off. Only this time not to make the same rookie mistakes like before.”
Canon info:
Fatal Fury 3 - Real Bout: Fatal Fury
Rock has first been introduced to the series as a young boy. This was the time when he and his mother, Marie, were living away from the crime infested areas of Southtown, but was well taken care of between the two. However, his mother soon bedridden with a disease that eventually taken her life, despite Rock's best efforts to take care of her. And despite his efforts and the sudden realization that his father, Geese Howard, did nothing in the attempts to help or save Marie from her illness. And to Rock, that was the most unforgivable thing that Geese had done and his hatred for the man began to grow.
While he hasn't made any actions or comments, it was at the end of Fatal Fury 3 where it is implied that he first meets and gets taken in by Terry, with Terry telling Rock "Oh, enough of this senseless combat! Let's be friends! Call me, pop, son!"
However, it is only made official after the events of Real Bout: Fatal Fury with the final showdown between Geese and Terry. Once Geese plunged himself down the skyscraper of Geese Tower, Rock honestly felt no sadness over the death of his father. But it did hit him that now he is truly alone in the world. So from that point on, he had begun traveling with Terry, as Terry probably didn't want a repeat history that happened like himself and Jeff Bogard.
Garou: Mark of the Wolves
In MOTW, we see Rock making his debut as a fighter in the King of Fighters tournaments. After ten years of training and traveling with Terry, and hearing news of the upcoming King of Fighters tournament being held, both he and Terry make their way back to show how much Rock has improved; but Rock also has a different motive. On his own invitation, there was a message about his mother that caught his attention immediately. So the two set out for South Town (now renamed to Second South) for not only for the tournament, but wanting to learn more about this piece of information.
Throughout the course of the tournament, Rock had met not only some childhood friends and new interesting people, he had made it to the finals eventually confronted the host: Kain R. Heinlein. What he got, however, was not exactly what he wanted. It turns out that Kain had wished for using the Legacy of Geese and wanting to use them as a tool for his plans of independence for Second South. But still tempting Rock by telling him that his mother is alive, Rock eventually stays with Kain to find out the truth, and asks Terry to wait for him to return.
Memories of Stray Wolves:
Memories of Stray Wolves is more or less a summary of the events that lead from Fatal Fury to Garou: Mark of the Wolves discussed between Terry Bogard and Rock Howard (with Duck King, Richard Meyer and Blue Mary making an appearance.). The story goes from the origins of Terry Bogard reliving the tales of his battles along with his brother Andy and best friend Joe Higashi to the King of Fighters tournaments and their struggle to confront Geese at first for revenge, then as the years go on, the motives soon change from revenge to the love of the fight. Eventually, the point of view changes to Rock's as he tells about how he felt since the death of Geese to the ending point of his story in Garou: Mark of the Wolves.
King of Fighters: Maximum Impact / Another Day
While the first Maximum Impact tournament didn't really have much to offer story line wise, it shows that Rock does have a role to play during the fighting for rule of Southtown within the crime syndicate, Mephistopheles. During Another Day, the four part OVA that takes place after the first Maximum Impact, expands more on Rock's position in Southtown as being a constant shadow of Geese Howard and struggles to make his own name rather than being trapped and forever known as the son of "That man."
During the conflagration caused by Ash Crimson that ignited Southtown into flames to lure out Kyo Kusanagi, Rock notices a large beam being shot down by the skies and hitting Geese Tower. It is here that we see Billy Kane confronting Lien Neville which the two go into battle (as Geese's right hand man fighting against a hired assassin from a rival crime power trying to take over South Town) which soon ends up with Billy dangling Lien above the edge of Geese Tower. From there, a confrontation between Billy and Rock ensues with Billy trying to recruit Rock into rebuilding the Howard Connection and bring back his father's legacy.
Rock expresses his refusal with his fist. But soon after making the attempt to rescue Lien, Billy corners Rock and telling him to let her go and that no matter how he struggles, he cannot escape his destiny. Thankfully with the last minute action with Lien requesting backup via laser attack, Rock was able to pull her to safety. It ends, however, with the whole reason Rock went to Geese Tower is to find a portrait of his mother that was not found (and possibly destroyed from both the laser attack or the fire). Soon, he returns home the next morning with Terry asking him where he went all night and heading off to take a nap... only with Rock noticing a smell of ash near by and a portrait being covered by Terry's coat.
King of Fighters: Maximum Impact 2
This time around, things get a lot more personal for Rock. With the fall of Mephistopheles, and yet another crime syndicate hosting another King of Fighters tournament that has summoned the old and new fighters to participate this time around. In the end, throughout fighting all the competition in his way from Billy Kane to even the ghost of Geese Howard, he makes it to the finals to where he confronts the host of the King of Fighters tournament this time around: Jivatma, the leader of the crime syndicate Kusiel that is a branch of a major group, Addes. However, Rock continued to become less pleased once Jivatma continued to address him as "the son of Geese Howard" and he has yet to escape that destiny. Those words causes Rock to get into action and proclaiming that he will change his destiny and won't lose his name, thus proving his power to Jivatma as Rock Howard, not another Geese.
After the fight, Rock mulls over the fact that even with his victory, that is there no way for him to escape Geese's shadow, but was soon encouraged by Terry Bogard that came to congratulate him. Once Terry tells Rock that there are just things he can't exactly escape and shoulder on for the rest of his life, but telling him that his life is his; Rock cheers up completely and tells Terry that they'll need to return to their home soon back in Southtown.
